David Paulo, professionally known as ShotByLeather, is a South Florida-based photographer, filmmaker, graphic designer, author, and visual historian from Lauderhill, Florida, dedicated to preserving culture, documenting history, and creating compelling visual experiences. His work blends photography, design, branding, and storytelling to celebrate communities while helping businesses, organizations, and individuals bring their visions to life.
His passion extends beyond creative services—he's committed to preserving the rich history and culture of Broward County and South Florida for future generations. His photography is permanently archived in the Broward County Library Digital Archives as part of the David Paulo Collection, contributing to the ongoing preservation of the region's historical record.
His work has been exhibited at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the Old Dillard Museum, and the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale. In recognition of his contributions to preserving and celebrating local history, he received a proclamation from the City of Fort Lauderdale for his creative work during Black History Month.
David's work has also been recognized and featured by CBS News Miami, WSVN 7News, Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel, WLRN, and 99 Jamz, highlighting his dedication to documenting meaningful stories throughout South Florida.
As an author and educator, David created Broward Chronicles: A Retrospective Vol. 1, a historical publication featuring his photography and documenting the people, places, and events that have shaped Broward County. He also developed THE HUB Collectible Black History Flashcards, an educational resource designed to make local Black history in Broward County more accessible and engaging.
In addition to his creative work, David founded THEHUB954, a digital preservation YouTube platform dedicated to documenting cultural heritage, community events, and untold stories throughout South Florida. Through every photograph, design, publication, and documentary project, his mission is to preserve history, inspire pride within the community, and ensure that the stories of today remain accessible for generations to come.
